PRESS RELEASE     SHOOTING INCIDENT

On January 21, 2018, while handling a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of North Main Street and King Street, a Boscawen officer Glen Chislett was notified of a 29 year old male who had sustained a gunshot wound to his leg.  The male was in a separate vehicle that was unrelated to the accident and had stopped in traffic.  The officer along with Boscawen Fire and Penacook Rescue administered first aid to control bleeding and he was transported to the Concord Hospital for treatment.  There were several other people in the vehicle who stated that the shooting occurred at 1 Corn Hill Road in Boscawen.  Additional police units were requested to assist.  Units from NH State Police, Concord Police Department, Webster Police Department and the Franklin Police Department responded and established a perimeter around the residence which forced a short closure of Corn Hill Road.  Several people were detained at the on-set but police were notified that there were several others refusing to come out of the house and that there were firearms inside.  After approximately an hour and a half, the remaining people inside the residence walked outside.

The home owner notified police that there were subjects hiding in a camper in the backyard so entry was made and a State Police K-9 entered.  The K-9 located Justin Santagati hiding under blankets and was ordered several times to come out but he refused.  The K-9 was sent in to assist in his detention which resulted in Santagati being bitten.  Santagati became combative and attacked the K-9 resulting in the dog being bit and a Trooper being assaulted.  Santagati was subsequently Tasered and taken into custody and charged with several offenses including assault on a police K-9.  A second male, Matthew Gedney, was also hiding within the camper and was taken into custody without incident.  Gedney had a warrant for his arrest and was transported to the Merrimack County Department of Corrections along with 2 other subjects, Jessica Evans and James Adams both for having outstanding warrants as well.

NH State Police Major Crimes Unit assisted with interviews of witnesses and evidence collection.  The investigation determined that the male subject accidently shot himself while handling a firearm.  He was treated and released from the hospital the following day.  It was later determined that the firearm had been stolen from a home invasion in Belmont which is still being investigated by that agency.
