Winter Woodlot Walk March 6th, 2021

The Boscawen Conservation Commission will be hosting a Saturday morning “winter woodlot walk” featuring  Charlie and Mabel Niebling’s certified Tree Farm on March 6 at 10 AM.  Charlie and Mabel’s property was recently named New Hampshire’s Outstanding Tree Farm for 2021.  This 67 acre forest, called the Niebling Family Forest, has been owned and managed by Charlie and his family since 2001.  It is permanently protected from development by a conservation easement held by the Society for the Protection of NH Forests.  The property has nearly 3 miles of tractor roads, and includes 60 mile views from the top of Raleigh Hill, (elev. = 920’) the highest point in Boscawen.  The 1.5 mile walk on gentle terrain will pass through different kinds of forest including old growth, a sugar bush in early stages of growth, regenerating white pine and red oak patch cuts, and thinned stands of valuable hardwoods.  Assuming we still have snow, we can do some wildlife tracking with some experts in town.

Please join us for this easy walk.  Hot drinks and refreshments will be served at the top of Raleigh Hill.  The woodlot access road is located just above 100 North Water Street. Please, park along the side of North Water Street above the access road (near the top of the hill on North Water St).  We will gather at the gate.  Dress according to the weather!  Snow, rain or shine.  For more information, contact:
