Boscawen Gardens Around Town

Gardens around Town

Summer 2022 was a busy time for the small group of volunteers who make up Boscawen’s newly formed “Beautification Committee”.  In addition to the Harris Hill roundabout, these volunteers focused their attention on several smaller projects around town. These include two newly installed gardens. One is adjacent to the Town Municipal Building entrance and the other at our Fire Station.  The new garden at the Town Municipal Building contains perennials we hope to see again this coming summer including Black Eyed Susan’s, Day Lilies, Purple Liatris, and Hosta.  Complementing the perennials and bring more color to the garden, annuals were planted around the perimeter that included Petunias that were switched out for Mums in the early fall.

The volunteers helped bring a pop of color to the Fire Station planting Butterfly Yellow Daisies around the base of the Smokey Bear Fire Danger sign. Whiskey barrels, near the doors overflowed with enormous multicolored Impatiens throughout the summer.  We are grateful to our Fire Chief, Tim Kenney, who worked tirelessly with two committee members to prepare the soil for this new garden and watered the plantings all summer.

Senorita Rosealita annual lavender flowers were planted in the around the base of the flag pole at the Municipal Building and white planters were maintained in front of the Police Station  filled with multicolored Zinnias and changed over to Mums early in the fall.

The library sign that sits near the entrance to the Municipal Building was replaced.  The committee is grateful to Carol Breault, of Distinctive Signs, who donated the new sign. Committee members surrounded the base with sunflowers that bloomed well into November.  Our very own Nancy Towle was instrumental in the installation and maintenance of all the flowers and gazebo decorations at the Municipal Building.

The Committee is very grateful to local businessman, Tom LeClair, who donated his services to power wash the sidewalk and parking lot at the Municipal Building, removing paint and years of grime.

Driving down King Street, passersby couldn’t help but notice how stunning the vintage watering trough looked that sits in front of the 1913 Library.  It was overflowing with Marigolds and other annuals that were lovingly maintained by Committee Member, Jeff Abbe.
